What is Hydroponics?
Traditional agriculture is characterized by expansive plots of extensively-tilled land. Massive portions of the world's land area and substantial quantities of fresh water and fossil fuels are being devoted to the production of food which fails to meet humanity's basic dietary needs.
The continuation of the current system of agriculture would mean the continuation of the degradation and destruction of the habitats of innumerable species, both aquatic and terrestrial, with insufficient returns.
New procedures which limit the further development of habitats (and provide the opportunity for the reversion of already degraded farmlands) while still meeting humanity's food and freshwater needs are needed. One such solution is hydroponic farming - a system of agriculture that utilizes nutrient-laden water rather than soil for plant nourishment.
Letcetra Agritech has embraced hydroponic farming and is involved in the production of high quality pesticide-free lettuce in a completely indoor farm. Air conditioning systems control the temperature and humidity, while LED lights are used to compensate for sunlight. Automated systems are in place to monitor and control water temperature, pH and nutrient level etc. As parameters which affect the plant are controlled, the risk of our plants dying is reduced considerably, improving yield and returns on investment.
Letcetra Agritech’s produce – romaine lettuce, basil, rocket/arugula, oakleaf and lollo green is distributed to the local supermarkets and restaurants. Given the tremendous for quality produce, there is always a ready chain of buyers for hydroponically grown vegetables.
The advantages of hydroponically grown plants are:
- Pesticide Free growth
- No soil needed
- 85% less water consumption as it is recycled through the system.
- Lower land requirement.
- Lower nutrition requirements.
- Pollution free with the fully controlled system. Reduces the risk of plant dying.
- Healthy stable plants that produce higher yields.
- Ease of harvesting.
- Zero pesticide produce.
- Shorter growth cycle.
- All year round growth
